At the Fort Belvoir project site, Program Manager Clifford
Willis recently donated a portion of KIRA’s award fee towards purchasing
a new stove to Thelma Ninonuevo Billy of Feed the Homeless in Fairfax,
Virginia. Each Wednesday afternoon Thelma (known as “Momma”
to those she serves) delivers an average of 200 hot meals to individuals
in need, and will serve over 500 people on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
KIRA recently provided much needed support to the family
of an enlisted member of the Army. Four year-old Samantha Rivera was diagnosed
with an inoperable brain tumer and through the US Army Florida Gulf Stream
Chapter, KIRA was able to provide financial assistance.

KIRA identifies corporate stewardship and community involvement as fundamental
aspects of its operations. Owner Carlos Garcia supports both large and
small charities, at home and abroad.
KIRA’s charity programs are well documented. For example, Mr. Garcia
established the Garcia Family Scholarship dedicated to Hispanic recipients
at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2006 the first recipient to receive
this scholarship for four years graduate, Maria Cristina Benitez. She
graduated Magna Cum Laude and is now employed by Morgan Stanley on Wall
Street.
Mr. Garcia also supports a group of inner city Hispanic children in Miami.
Through a church organization, Mr. Garcia is the largest contributor to
a group which is mostly orphans of Central American decent. In the past,
Mr. Garcia has even paid for the entire group to attend camp in North
Carolina.
Mr. Garcia international charitable endeavors are wide-ranging. He supports
the Casa de Estudios in Nicaragua. Starting with the payment of two students’
full tuition, Mr. Garcia now supports four children and has announced
his plans to expand to eight next year. Mr. Garcia also contributes to
One World Running, an organization which supplies people all over the
world with running shoes.
Mr. Garcia has also donated his time to speak at a series of classes at
the business school at the University of Colorado. In the past he has
spoken at his two alma maters – Columbia University and the University
of Pennsylvania.
